Homework - Continue working on report. Do additional research on the author of your book. Come to class prepared to use the Ipads and your Evernote account to take/save notes for your paper. Friday you will learn how to upload your paper to Turnitin.com.

Information - The Boston Public Schools are conducting tests of all grade 3-10 students next week
 ( December 5/6), in English and math.

Homework - Study your summaries for chapters 7 & 8 in The Giver and study the vocabulary for chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8 also in The Giver. Test on Monday December 3rd for both.

Information

I will not be in class on Monday, I have a funeral to attend. All work that was due on Monday will be due on Tuesday. We will start to use the iPad on Tuesday instead.
Please do the work that I am leaving with the substitute teacher all work will be checked on Tuesday.

Homework - Continue to work on "Riki-tiki-tavi" in your Literature Book, pages 74 - 91. Answer all questions except for 6,8, and 9 on page 89.
All work is due Monday November 26.

Continue to work on your Book Report, which is due no later than December 3.
We will be using the iPads in class next week (11/26). Please come prepared with both your notes and book to work on your project in class.

Continue working on Long Term Project (reading a book written by a male). Read and take notes, place your notes in your Evernotes.com account.
Rough Draft due to be uploaded by December 3. The rough draft will be worth three (3) test grades. The final revised paper is worth 30% of your term grade.

Book Report Outline

Here is a copy of the outline for the long term project:

Pick a book written by any male author; please follow the guidelines listed below. Please bring in the book for pre-approval no later than November 5.

Rough draft is due December 3, final draft is due December 17, 2012; use Turnitin.com to submit your paper. Your paper must be at least 4 pages long; cover, 2 pages of body, and a work cited page.

MLA format:

a)     Times New Roman Size 12 Font

b)    One inch margins on all sides

c)     Double space only

d)    Cover Page has to include your name, homeroom, date, book title underlined, author, and my name, Ms. Chaney

BOOK REPORT OUTLINE

A.   Title: Give the title of your book – underline it once

B.    Author: Give the name of the author of your work. List details concerning his life work, and include any information that might have a direct bearing on the work that you have read by him. Is there a special reason why they wrote this work? Finally list all other works done by this author.

C.    Theme/thesis: Write on good paragraph about the subject/main idea of the story.

D.   Setting: Describe the setting or local in which the events in the story take place.

E.    Characters: List the main and minor characters. Write one good sentence about each; tell why they are important to the story.

F.    Action/situation: Use details to tell what happens in the story. Please be specific by using examples from the story.  Please write at least three (3) paragraphs for this section

G.   Opinion: What is your opinion of the story? Did you enjoy reading it yes/no, explain. List facts to back up your statements.

H.   Recommendation: Would you recommend this book to the rest of the class? Write at least one sentence for your recommendation

Newspaper Summaries(3) are due on Friday November 16.
